Differential effects of mutations in NS4B on West Nile virus replication and inhibition of interferon signaling.

West Nile virus (WNV) is a human pathogen that can cause symptomatic infections associated with meningitis and encephalitis. Previously, we demonstrated that replication of WNV inhibits the interferon (IFN) signal transduction pathway by preventing the accumulation of phosphorylated Janus kinase 1 (JAK1) and tyrosine kinase 2 (Tyk2) (J. T. Guo et al., J. Virol. 79:1343-1350, 2005). Through a ge...

West Nile Virus, Guadeloupe

To determine whether West Nile virus (WNV) had reached the archipelago of Guadeloupe, a serologic study in horses and birds was conducted in 2002. Immunoglobulin (Ig) G, IgM, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and seroneutralization tests identified WNV infection in horses and chickens. Six months later, a high rate of seroconversion was observed in horses.

West Nile virus.

West Nile (WN) virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus and human, equine, and avian neuropathogen. The virus is indigenous to Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia, and has recently caused large epidemics in Romania, Russia, and Israel. Birds are the natural reservoir (amplifying) hosts, and WN virus is maintained in nature in a mosquito-bird-mosquito transmission cycle primarily involving Culex sp ...

ERAP: West Nile Virus

Cow calves were infected with Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) by parenteral inoculation. One batch was reinfected with JEV, followed by West Nile virus (WNV), while another batch was reinfected directly with WNV. No viraemia due to either JEV or WNV was demonstrated in any of the calves. Culex tritaeniorhynchus mosquitoes fed on 4 of the calves infected with JEV during the first 10 d had no d...

West Nile Virus

During the course of the virological investigation of cases of suspected viral fevers carried out at the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, India, evidence of recent infection with West Nile (WN) virus was detected in 88 cases. Fever, general aches, headache, nausea and vomiting were the principal clinical features in 92% (81/88) of the cases; there were seven cases of encephalitis, in...
